This project, in collaboration with FARS Studio, won first prize in the Landmark for Origin of Chao Phraya River Competition. LAB was involved in the development and landscape design of the project. The sublime curved architecture serves as a viewing platform for visitors to observe the merging of two rivers to form a two-colored body of water, a unique phenomenon. The landmark appears to float on the river, and at high tide, boats are able to pass over the structure. The 9 meter variability of water height and rapid water flow presented obstacles in landscape design, and LAB adapted to these obstacles by allowing for the design to be temporarily submerged underwater and become a growing medium for aquatic vegetation. The linear concrete elements of the design are apparatuses for creating usable space for human activity, providing slope protection and erosion control, as well as becoming a medium for ecology succession.
